[all 1f40 variants] having few troubles with cd rom and video playback
hey everyone...
i can get my sound going now without any problem (X-Fi)... playing my music with rhythmbox (which displays the files like winamp).. however i cannot seem to get grip to notice that my cd-rom is there and i cannot get the cds recorded onto my hard drive. vlc does the same and audacious and movie player, they don't seem to recognise the cd-rom or that a disc is in it yet the listing in >places>computer shows it there.
i have tried music dvds and they work but the movies don't.. and i have downloaded what i was told to download on synaptic with ubuntu-restricted-extras... did i miss something? and everytime i read a how to it still skips things that are happening to what my computer does and what they explain should be happening without any references to what i need to do... frustrating but it makes me have to learn a lot more. that brings up... where do i learn if i cannot find what to do? i seem to not ask the correct questions when i google... it seems that my language does not fit into the "computer" thought processes... waaahh
so i sit here frustrated and struggling for answers.... at least it gives me something to do and and keeps me off the streets... lol
oh... by the way, i loved computers when i was a freshman in high school and did nothing with that... i had a c
1f40
omputer built for me the end of 1999 and i had windows... no brainers there and i struggled to learn that... sheeeesh. now in 2009 i went windows free without really knowing much, i am a nOOb and proud of it but it doesn't help getting what i want out of my computer,,, nice computer *pats computer sweetly* and i realise with ubuntu or the other distros i can do sooooo much more. and my graduating class was 1976 for high school... i took too long of a break in between computer desires.... anyone in So Cal near me to help? a gorgeous asian woman would be nice but maybe that wouldn't help me learn computers.
